magic in the ancient world

We had been hoping to go to this small, but interesting, exhibit at the Penn Museum for some time, and got there this morning. Call this a brief detour in our “World Religions 101” rundown, but it felt important to ask; if this exhibit is portraying the wearing of amulets, and of rituals like not walking under ladders, or throwing salt over one’s shoulder “magical thinking”, how different was it for us to buy a pear for a big statue last Sunday at the Lunar New Year Celebration?

Claudia’s opinion: somewhat different. Although she’s not necessarily sure how. A lenticular postcard featuring a blinking Nefertiti was the high point of the visit for her, as far as her journal entry shows. For Béla, a collection of human skulls of various races.
