They worked REALLY hard for the Blues show at School of Rock this year. Although Béla had played cowbell in the Bowie shows last summer, this was his first “real” show, where he was THE drummer, for two songs. He was fantastic. She was fantastic.
The first show was at School of Rock on a Friday night.
It can be hard to get a good photo of the drummer, no matter what.
We were really touched that Ovation Music Fund, which manages the scholarship program at SoR, put this on their Facebook page!
We went to City Diner afterwards.
On Saturday we did NOTHING except get dressed for the show at three, at World Café Live. We made sure to get there a little early because of the traffic from the Penn Relays and the NFL Draft. So we got to see some of the funk show. Here’s Claudia looking shocked that Chaka Khan and Rufus’ “Tell Me Something Good” exists outside of our car:
And here is Béla, looking about as grown as he ever has. He had come to me the night before asking, “Was I really good? Did I sound like a real drummer?”
See for yourself:
And thanks to Yanni, who was a great teacher for this production.
Now back to just lessons… until our week in Woodstock, New York in July for Paul Green Rock Academy and Frank Zappa camp!!
