I’m usually the one who is first in the know about cool new stuff (really!) but a few months ago our family friend Eileen — who has known Tucker since he was younger than our kids — had messaged me that she wanted to take Claudia to a meet-and-greet and talk by this comic book author at Taller Puertoricano. We had other plans for that time, unfortunately. But Tuck and I were at Taller not long after, and saw the comic, and got it for Claude (as well as a cool chupacabra comic for B.).
La Borinqueña got the Claudia seal of approval in that she disappeared so far down into it you could barely see her. So we were happy to hear that this author and artist, Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, was coming to Amalgam Comics.
His talk was great, and energizing. Talking about representation in media never gets old. Certainly not for the kids, who are starting to make their own comics, and write their own stories now.
Claudia got her book signed, and bought a poster to have signed as well. Lots of new things to be hung in her soon-to-be revamped bedroom! I am so grateful to have events like this in the city — a busy and fun Saturday for all of us.
